The Value of Participating in The Arts

"Let them praise his name with dancing"

Psalm 149:3

There are countless times in the word of God where Dance is used as a form of worship, praise, or expression of joy. I am constantly reminded as we journey together as a dance family how amazing the universal language of dance is, a way to express ourselves that moves beyond words.

Reflecting on this year had reminded me how blessed we are to connect and create together in person. Looking back on 2020, I remember the disconnect of dancing from a distance. I was so proud of how the students stayed motivated throughout this time. 2021 has been filled with creativity, laughter, and challenge as we have dived into the course work for this year.

We began this year dusting off our tap shoes and learning some toe-tapping tunes with a Tap unit. The Level Two dance class went on to learn a SaSa performance which we look forward to sharing with the school community during the Arts Showcase. It is always such a delight to watch the students engage with another culture through movement and dance. All Level 1,2 and 3 students have also worked on the genres of Hip Hop, Jazz and Contemporary, a jam-packed first two terms!

As we look ahead into Term three, we are diving into the realm of choreography. Students take up the challenge of creating movement phrases and analysing dance from the perspective of an outside eye. Choreography involves students refining their communication, and collaborative skills as they journey with one another through a creative process. Term Three will also see the school-wide Arts Showcase week come to life, which we are looking forward to sharing some of these spectacular performances with our school community.

It has been a high-energy and adventurous start to the year and we look forward to sharing the excellence that students have been working on with their God-given artistic talents.
