Keep in Touch Days for Stronger Bonds and Lasting Relationships! by Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NZ
Waikato East and West Teams — November 27, 2023
Making new friends and having new experiences are always a highlight of Keep in Touch (KIT) Days.
KIT Days have been the highlight of 2023 for both ākonga and Resource Teachers of the Deaf (RTD). The connections between students and exciting new learning experiences are always great to be part of.
In Term 2, our intermediate and high school-aged students visited Te Whare Taonga o Waikato - read more about this here.
Our 'Spring is Here' KIT day occurred in Term 3 and was aimed at our younger students. A past RTD and her lovely neighbours hosted us, showed us the animals on their farms, and let us pat and feed many of them. This was their first farm experience for most students, so the aroma was a talking point! We came away with feathers from different birds, skeleton leaves found along the path on our bush walk, an egg from the chickens, and many new friends.
Many of us have kept up these new friendships by writing letters to each other, which get delivered via our RTDs. We can't wait to catch up again in 2024!
