A Smile that Captured Hearts

Margo Clark & Clint GreenNovember 7, 2021

Te Pokoru a Year 9 student, at Tongariro Area School. He had a smile that captured hearts and a real gentlemen in the making.

Te Pokoru was a long time student on the Bay of Plenty RTD caseload. Sadly he passed away earlier this year. As part of his involvement with our team he would always participate in Kit and language days. Te Pokoru was a gentle and quiet person and well respected amongst his peers. He would always take the time to check in with his friends and see if they were alright. I had the pleasure to talk with him on several occasions and we would discuss what he wanted to do when he grew up. His goal was to become a mechanic and work on motors.

Te Pokuru Knowles

Te Pokoru was a gentle soul. He had a deep vulnerable innocence at his heart. Always the first to take a younger learner under his wing. Able to take a joke with laughter. He leaves behind a deep and dark hole for those he has touched. Living in the same community gave me the privilege of a continuing relationship and oversight and I will miss passing him in the street and checking on his schooling. He was a true treasure and he will be deeply missed by the Bay of Plenty Central Team.

Haere, e tama, e Te Pokuru, haere. Rupeke atu ki te tini o ō whanaunga e whanga mai ana i a koe i te Pūtahi o Rēhua. Haere, e tama haere.

Farewell son,Te Pokuru, farewell.Join together with your many relatives waiting for you at the meeting place of Rēhua.Farewell, son, farewell.
