Christchurch Campus Residences 2021 Tribute Henry Tangiwai-Scott

Michael May - Residential Team LeaderNovember 8, 2021

Christchurch Campus Residential students and staff wish to acknowledge the journey and recent passing of Henry-Tangiwai-Scott

A few months ago, we said farewell to our much-beloved ex-student Henry Tangiwai-Scott, who was pretty much still well involved with the residences via sports and cheering upon rugby games on sky sports.

He was well known as the bright blue-eyed kid with a wonderful personality, that attracted so many friends of all walks of life within New Zealand and internationally, due to his representation with the Deaf Blacks Rugby Team. Henry was loved by many and still to this day, many friends and families talk about his journey from the day he arrived at van Asch Deaf Education Centre (now Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education NZ) in 2012.

Henry spent ten years of his life, developing and growing his own personality. For many, he was a role model often teaching the younger children the values that he thought were best. Henry had a positive outgoing attitude to life, in which he excelled in so many areas: sports, creatively, filmmaking, and building. He had passions and dreams and he knew what he wanted to do with these dreams. Henry worked hard towards gaining the experience of becoming a builder and saving for his first car, it was just unfortunate he was taken so soon. With his positive outgoing personality, he has given us all a very important message that we should not take life for granted and that we should be doing our very best in life by going forward and reaching out for the goals and dreams that we all want to achieve. As Henry would say “Have a Good Life” with thumbs up 👍 and a huge grin.
