Cherise - Korean Speech Competition by Sunny Yang

Annyoung haseyo 안녕하세요

This week is Korean Festival week and we were proud to have one of our students participating in the Korean Education Centre speech competition and also to hear that the Korean Education Centre and CAPE will be continuing to support our Korean classes in 2019! We still have opportunities for free Korean classes in Term 4 - we would love to see some of our younger children participate with their teachers!

Congratulations to Cherise Armstrong-Tuiavii from Mangere Central School who participated in the Korean Education Centre speech competition at Auckland University over the weekend. eTeacher Sunny Yang from Dunedin was in Auckland to attend and said:

"I am very proud of her and it is an amazing achievement for her. Our class is only 30 minutes weekly and she can speak in Korean for 2 minutes in front of over 100 people."

You can see Cherise's speech below.

The Korean Education Centre have been supporting our classes by paying for our eteacher Sunny, enabling schools to participate free of charge or at a subsidised rate. They have continued this commitment for 2019 along with CAPE (Centres of Asia-Pacific Excellence), who recognise the role online learning has to support the growth and development of Korean in New Zealand.

We have room in our schedule to take on new schools in Term 4 for a 5 week Korean taster programme. Contact us if you are interested to participate.

Attached are some Korean posters to download and put up in your classrooms. I have one printed set email rachel.whalley@vln.school.nz if you want it for your school
