Orchestra Performs at Assembly! by Janine Hills

Orchestra Performs at Assembly!

In Week 2 of Term 4, the LPHS Orchestra performed in both assemblies.

The orchestra played a slightly shortened version of the original 'Orphée aux enfers' (Orpheus in the Underworld) by Offenbach, and 'Gabriel's Oboe' from the film 'The Mission', composed by Ennio Morricone and arranged by Richard Ling. Both pieces featured a range of soloists, and different instruments throughout the orchestra.

'Orphée aux enfers' started off with a faster section, going into slower melodies and a range of virtuosic solos, before breaking into the popular and recognisable can-can theme.

Gabriel's Oboe is a well-known piece of music, with its soaring melodies and lush harmonies.

Well done to all members of the orchestra for their hard work throughout the year, and in tackling such challenging works. I look forward to continuing with the work that we've done next year, and planning future performances!
