Sports Round-Up

In Basketball, Jaren Roy has been selected for the New Zealand Under 17 team training camp in Timaru 21-24 August.

And George McLaurin has recently been selected for the Dunedin Under 17 cricket training squad.

In Football, Joseph Araya has made the U13 Otago team and Solomon Liesbeth the U15 Otago team.

In Hockey, Jacob Duffy and Ben Major have been selected for the U15 Otago development team. Our U15’s have been playing in the Senior Men’s Club Hockey competition each week in preparation for a regional tournament to be held in the next school holidays. Four students, Alexander Woolrych, George Vella-King, Natasha Abbott and Izzie Locker, who play in the Club hockey competition are in teams that made the Club finals.

A number of students are involved withTournament teams currently training for the Hockey tournament in Blenheim, Basketball tournament in Dunedin and Bowls tournament in Wellington later this month.

Two junior teams are busy training for the Get2Go Challenge in kayaking, mountain-biking and running. We’re looking forward to the co-educational cross country champs shortly.

The Ice Hockey team is enjoying the tough competition and are likely to be in the B final.

Our Snowboarding camp to Ohau last week was action-packed and exciting with students appreciating the extended time to hone their skills.

Sports Prefects and Student Sports Council members, George Vella-King, Chris Gillett, Maddy Bowen and Frances Barnett attended the Sports Prefects Workshop last week, run by the Otago Secondary School Sports Association. They found it practical and affirming of their current leadership and initiatives in our school sports.

Our Climbing Club, led by Adian Braid continues to make great use of the climbing wall and lunchtime table-tennis is proving popular with all levels.  

Our Rugby boys played a gutsy game to end their season on Saturday and will be building their strength for next season!
