Mathew Denys Year 13, was selected to attend the World Science Conference in Jerusalem, Israel in August, along with 5 other top science students from around New Zealand.

In the last week of Term Two, all of the Year 8 students from Tahuna Intermediate School visited our school for rock-climbing lessons on our climbing wall in preparation for their outside experience at Long Beach in Term Three.

The Drama department were delighted to host the 2014 Junior Shakespeare Festival on June 26th.

Our Media Studies students were invited to film two short segments for TV 3's comedy show, 7 Days. The show involves famous New Zealanders and comedians taking a look at the week's news and having a laugh.

Logan Park High School hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast on Wednesday 28th May to raise funds for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

LPHS students Pippi Miller and Josephine Devereux  joined the Fortune Theatre School Ambassador Programme this year.

Year 10 students were delighted to see professionals at work in our black box theatre.

A powerful speech about using education as a weapon to defeat poverty, crime and the inter-generational cycle of hardship has won Jacobi Kohu-Morris the Nga Manu Korero Otago Southland Senior English section of the speech contest for the second year in a row. He will represent the Southern region in Hastings in September.

Paul Enright (Head of Social Sciences at Logan Park High School) and Lara Hearn (ex-LPHS student and currently teacher at Queens' High School) were invited by Pita Sharples (Minister of Maori Affairs) to the national launch of the NZ secondary schools' History Teaching and Learning Guide for NCEA, which Paul and Lara co-wrote for the Ministry of Education.

We had two teams of Year 9 and 10 students participating in the Dunedin Secondary Schools' Scrabble Tournament at the Dunedin Public Library in May.

Ella Dodd and Malakai Maamaloa were our school's 2014 The Edge Radio interns. They were able to get industry experience in scripting and voicing radio advertisements as well as organising school-wide events.

The following is Ava Straw's winning writing from the 'Murder in the Bookshop' event for the Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival 2014. The writing had to be 150 words, based on 'found' objects at UBS (including a dead body!).

Our Charities Group – Cupcake Friday was enthusiastically supported by more than 200 people and raised $240 for the Red Cross to use for flood relief work in the Solomon Islands.

Logan Park Boys Rugby team have been competing in the Colts B league this year.

Logan Park had 10 girls playing rugby in a combined side with Taieri this year.

Milford Sound was named as the eighth Wonder of the World by Rudyard Kipling. And now I have lots of reasons to agree with him. Recently our group of international students went on a trip to Milford Sound.

Traditionally Logan Park High School Teams have done very well winning the contest from 2009 and our other teams making the top four. Questions cover the books and authors nominated for the awards as well as sections on History, Geography, Science and General knowledge.

Logan Park High School Drama Department represent Otago as regional winners at The Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Competition.

We are very pleased to announce that our application to the DCC Enviroschools program for $500 has been approved.

On Thursday 19 June four teams competed in the ODT Spelling Quiz. There were 45 teams from all schools in Dunedin. Two of our teams came third equal together (96 out of 100).

Our Chess players enjoyed competing in this year's Otago Secondary Schools' Chess Champs on Saturday 21st of June.

Logan Park entered a Senior team in the Senior B section of the 2014 Otago Secondary Schools Netball Tournament.

Year 11 International Hospitality students ran a very successful Market Stall on Thursday 19th June at interval.

The Choral Federation’s annual school choir competition The Big Sing, was held in the Dunedin Town Hall on Wednesday 18th June.

This annual competition was held at Marama Hall on the weekend of 14/15 June, with the Final on the Sunday evening.

The finals of the Smokefree Rockquest were held at Sammy’s Nightclub on the evening of June 7, with the heats three weeks prior at the Kings High School Performing Arts Centre.

Jonty Horwell competed in the Otago Indoor Bowls Championship this year and is now the the Junior Singles U18 Otago Champion.

A highlight of this month has been one of our top gymnasts, Shannon Thorsnes, (17 ) who is in the New Zealand Gymnastics team and competed in the Australian National Championships in Melbourne, competing in the Ribbon, Ropes, Clubs and Ball in a week long event. The New Zealand Team won a Bronze medal overall and Shannon won a Silver medal as an individual in the Clubs section.

On June 20th the international students had an International Concert in the auditorium. All the international students performed and their teachers and host families were impressed by the performances.

Year 9 Digital Technology students recently participated in a video Skype chat with Southside High School students from North Carolina in America.

The recent Year 10 camp was a great success, with over 50 students attending, including senior students.
