School Donations Scheme

Recently, the Ministry of Education has announced changes to how schools are funded.

Decile ratings are on the way out, and an Equity Index has replaced them. The Ministry has access to improved data and a better understanding of the socio-economic factors that impact student achievement most.

With these funding changes, Mackenzie College qualifies for the School Donation Scheme.

What is the School Donations scheme?

Eligible state and state-integrated schools and Kura can choose to receive $154.13 (excluding GST) per student per year if they agree not to ask parents and caregivers for donations, except for overnight camps, extracurricular activities and some senior course-related costs. This initiative is designed to alleviate the pressure and expectation on parents and whānau to provide donations.

For more information about the Donations scheme, visit the Donation page on our website.

The Mackenzie College Board favours 'opting in' to the School Donation Scheme. However, if you are concerned about these changes and the Board's position, please get in touch with either Presiding Member, Hamish Johnson haj.mcbot22@mackcollege.school.nz or myself before the 7th of November.
