ABEL TASMAN YEAR 9 CAMP

What an incredible week we had on the Abel Tasman Year 9 camp. Students showed so much grit and manaakitanga whilst tramping, swimming, camping, and completing challenges.

On Sunday the 6th of November we travelled to Murchison where we camped and got ready for our tramp. On Monday we drove to Kaiteriteri, boarded the ferry, and sailed to Awaroa. That afternoon we swam, gathered mussels and pipi, and played games around the camp site. Tuesday was our first big day of tramping. We walked 12.5km to Bark Bay, where we set up camp on the sand. Sand sculptures were crafted of Mr Nelson, and stories were told around the camp fire while we waited for the eclipse. On Wednesday we tramped 9km to Anchorage across the estuary. A group of students then ventured to the Cleopatra pools for a cool dip. That night we visited the glow worm caves. Thursday saw us board the ferry back to Kaiteriteri and travel to Hanmer Springs where we swam in the hot pools and had fun on the massive slides. That night we had the dessert Masterchef challenge. On Friday morning students were surprised with a jet boat ride before we headed south towards home. A massive thank you must go to the wonderful bunch of parents that joined us. Also a big thank you to Mrs Parke and Mrs Linklater for organising the camp.
