During the Holidays, year 9 student Shelby Wells competed in two major Dance competitions, the Napier Performing Arts Competition in Hawke's Bay and a five day competition in Palmerston North.
Shelby had a very successful time at the Napier Performing Arts Competition. The competition was established in 1908 by a group of prominent Hawke’s Bay citizens. The Napier Performing Arts Society aims to foster and promote all aspects of the Performing Arts and it draws competitors from all over the North Island. The art forms offered are: vocal, instrumental, speech & drama and dance.
Shelby won two first places for her contemporary and lyrical dances, two second places in her barefoot and national character and two third places with her ballet age group, under 14. She also won $400 in Scholarship Prize money!
Next up was a five day competition in Palmerston North. Again, she dominated the competition, coming first in ballet pointe, second in barefoot and third in national character.
Well done, Shelby! A Fantastic achievement!
