We will remember them.
On Tuesday 25th April our Senior Student Leaders participated in the ANZAC Day formalities in Foxton.
These began with the Dawn Service at the Cenotaph. Deputy Head Boy and Arts Captain Logan Dear and Kaitiaki Te Ahi Kunaiti were the flag bearers for the RSA and lead the march from the club rooms to the Cenotaph.
Two of our Kaitiaki Leighton Briggs and Paora Tamihana recited The Ode in English and Maori. This service was followed by breakfast at the Foxton RSA.
There was also a Civic Service held in the College Hall at 9am. Head Students Emma Tufuga and Callum Thwaites read messages from Dame Patsy Reddy, the Governor-General of New Zealand and the Right Honourable Bill English, Prime Minister of New Zealand.
Chelsea Parlato (Sports Captain), Maddi Parlato (Academic Captain) and Natalie MacDonald (International Captain) Introduced the poems and gave a background to the poppy emblem. They also recited 'In Flanders Fields' and 'We Shall Keep The Faith'.
Our students Logan Dear and Kaitiaki Tayla Kuiti headed the march to the Cenotaph as flag bearers and Leighton Briggs, and Te Ahi Kunaiti laid wreaths in remembrance. Emma and Callum read The Roll of Honour.
Some of our CACTUS graduates also marched with the service people (many of who were past Manawatu College students) to the Cenotaph.
