Principal's Message

by Sue Cattell

Kia ora whānau. Our Year 6 students who are going to TNIS next year spent a morning there this week. They were very excited to take part in activities and meet some of our ex-students. The photo above and those below are from the day. We are very fortunate to have such a great intermediate school that our students can feed into. Continuing their IB journey is so beneficial to the development of their approaches to learning and in setting them up with the skills they need to be lifelong learners.

We will be having nother non-uniform day next Friday 2 December and this time it will be Christmas Themed. Children can wear their home clothes to school with a bit of Christmas flare and bring a gold coin donation which will go towards the final push to raise funds for the Y3-4 playground which is set to be installed at the end of November. We have been able to raise over $700 at each of our previous non-uniform days for which we are very grateful. Lets see if we can make this one the biggest yet!

LAST CHANCE TO CONTRIBUTE! 6th December is the final day! Age Concern Xmas Appeal

by Sara Baker

This year, after not being able to participate in 2021 due to lockdown, we are happy to announce we will again be supporting the Age Concern North Shore organisation to collect gifts and Christmas messages of kindness and recognition to the elderly community of the North Shore. Many of our elderly in the community do not have relatives or friends able to be with them each Christmas day, so with the gifts we collect, Age Concern provides a small gift hamper for many of these lovely people. Please help us and donate an item to our collection!

Donations Needed

by Admin

9 Lives Orphange do an amazing job of caring for and rehabilitating injured, sick and scared cats and kittens, and to re-home these once stray and abandoned animals into loving forever homes. With 252 cats and kittens in foster already, and with kitten season already in full swing, they desperately need donations of food, litter and other items. There is a box in the school office if anyone would like to donate to this very worthy charity.

Vocabulary Development with our Year 1s

by Sara Baker

Tessa, Melanie, Rachel and Yikun popped up to share their new vocabulary with me this week and it was lovely to see these keen learners so excited to share their work. With Mrs S in the ESOL group, the children have been exploring life cycles and they shared the life cycle of apples with me. Each could name each part of the cycle, from seeds to seedlings to trees with buds, blossoms and fruit. Fantastic learning!

Gardening Club Update

by Sam Gilchrist

We were so lucky this Thursday to have a sunny lunchtime. There were lots of jobs to do in the garden, we were so busy! The peas were not having much success by the nets, so the children weeded and cleared the area to prepare for sweet corn. We planted some cherry tomatoes in the garden bed and cut back the flowers to allow for more light. There was a hole in the strawberry patch netting, so Niko very patiently used some strings to sew the hole back together. We also used magnifying glasses and a microscope to look at the 'rust' that has been spotted on the garlic leaves. In the end, we all took home a wedge of cabbage.

They have had lots of fun doing it!

Festival of Song

by Admin

Every year the Milford School students sing Christmas songs on the field while the parents sit on picnic rugs, drink and eat and enjoy the children singing. It is a highlight of the year and we haven't been able to do this concert for a couple of years, so the children are very excited to have it back! It is a wonderful opportunity to get to know people in the school community and to celebrate the wonderful year. Children wear red, white or green clothing. They start arriving with you at 5pm. The singing starts at 5.30 pm. Each year group will be performing, so put it in your diary!
