House Cook-Off 2021 by Matt Robinson

Nayland Food Collective 2022 House Cook-Off

This year's challenge was to create an easily shareable snack (sweet or salty), representing Nayland’s houses or SOAR values, for 10 people with a budget of $20. Similar to last year’s challenge of sustainability it intended to introduce affordable and easy recipes to Nayland students.

Every entry earned a House Point and the top 2 Recipes from each house then went head-to-head in our second House Cook-Off.

Judged by a team of taste-testing-teachers Kavya Amarasinghe’s Lentil Dragons won first price for Draco, with Malina Kleine (Phoenix) and Tye Wells (Draco) coming in second and third respectively.

Special mention goes out to the leaders of each team: Rain Kelly-Austin, Kavya Amarasinghe, Tesha Sheeran, Saskia Hall, Georgia Bayley, Nelson McComb, Owen Suter, Tye Wells, and Malina Kleine for designing and executing amazing dishes to represent Neirana, their houses, and our SOAR values.

Special thanks to Malina who not only competed but was the driving force behind this year’s cook-off. Malina has been an unwavering supporter of the Nayland Food Collative during her time at Nayland; her drive, dedication, and desire to give back to her community are qualities of a true leader and she will be sorely missed in 2022 as she returns home to Germany and I am sure a very successful career in whichever field she turns her considerable talents to.
