Over the last two weeks the Year 2 Hub children have been exploring water skills in the school pool and having fun at the same time.  We were very lucky to have a swimming teacher come and visit us this week to teach us some activities to help us build on our swimming skills.  So far we have enjoyed learning how to pick up objects from the pool floor, getting out of the pool without support, floating on our front and back (with and without support), playing paper scissor rock under water and working on our kicking.

The students enjoyed watching the video during our classroom sessions. You might want to watch it with your child and talk about some key points at home:

Our goals this term are:

In the pool

  • Going under the water - submersion
  • Getting in and out of the water
  • Floating on the water - personal buoyancy
  • Rolling and turning in the water - orientation
  • What to do in an emergency - safety of self and others

In the classroom

  • Water safety and awareness skills
  • Moving through the water
