Alex HORN

A look back at the first week of Term 2.

Reading

We have new reading groups this term, some of us have new teachers, while others have stayed with last terms teacher. Nearly every single reader and group has moved up to harder, more complicated texts.

Writing

For writing this week Mr Horn's writing class made a bio-dome, so we could see the water cycle on a small scale. We made a mountain, lake and ocean, then we covered the dome in glad wrap. Using a lamp as an artificial sun the water from the ocean evaporated, condensed on the glad wrap and precipitated back down in the lake, by the end of the week we had a lake with water that had moved from the ocean. This was very inspirational and we all wrote two or more pages as a result.

Miss O'Loughlin's group took inspiration from the changing season, they explored and read poetry and other forms of expression about autumn.

Mr Morehu's writers used the book "Just and Ordinary Day" by Rob Clement to write a story about an extraordinary day.

Maths

Maths Whizz is going really well in all of our maths classes, as children continue to make progress in Maths Whizz the questions will begin becoming harder and more targeted.

We have been focusing heavily on fractions and using them in a variety of ways, reading them, making them with numbers and shapes, sequencing them from smallest to biggest, and adding them together.

Integrated Topic

We are learning about sustainability and the planet Earth in topic this term. Already we have began to learn about the water cycle and how plants grow.

PE

This term for PE we are learning about throwing, catching, passing, targeting, and other general big ball and small ball skills.
