Writing
We have added the first two writing challenges to our ongoing narrative writing!
In Task #1 we had to think about questions our protagonist may have, in this task we learned how to structure a question with a wondering word and a question mark, and how to make these questions relevant to the context.
In Task #2 we had to describe two different ways we could try and escape a sinking problem, and how we would be feeling as both of these attempts failed! In this task we not only learned about how to write a descriptive event and describe our feelings, but we have begun learning about similes as well!
Topic
Our topic this term is about being a part of a community and how we can look after that community. Our big question is "What do we owe to each other?" and we will be focusing on how we can be productive and supportive members of our various communities. As a part of this we will be producing a collaborative mural. We will be working as a Hub wide community to produce the entire piece, but smaller groups (or communities) to produce the different parts of the mural. The five parts are "The Sand", "The Sea", "The Mountains", "The Sky" and "The Waka".
"The Sand" team has already completed their parts and "The Sea" team has begun, and will be finishing in the coming week so "The Mountains" team can take over.
Meanwhile we are also creating individual oars with visual and written messages for how we will be able to support our community that will be added to the finished work.
The Arts
We are finally all caught up on our year long arts rotation. Your child has now completed a five week Drama unit, Dance unit, and Music unit! They have also produced not one but two pieces of art using different mediums, sketching and painting!
For the rest of November we will be working on our performance at the Gala. We will be performing The Dot Song.
