In hub 2 this week some of us engaged in Number Talks. This means we are given a problem, we solve it with a maths buddy using different maths equipment, also show how we got to the answer and explain our thinking.

Throughout the week we shared our ideas and came up with 4 different strategies for 3+9=, and 5 + 9=.

We could work it out by:

1. Adding using the smallest number

2. Adding using the biggest number

3. Rounding our biggest number to a 10

4. Skip counting to work out our answer
