Reading
Mrs Griffiths is now completing Chapter Chat with lots of students as they focus on comprehension and new, tricky and interesting words. The book we are reading is Wayside School beneath the cloud of Doom. There are lots of interesting and strange things that are happening the children are enjoying hearing what Mrs Jewls class and the children of Wayside School are up to each day.
Writing
This week did another fun experiment! We learnt about how Salt can affect the density of water and make things float. We used two jars, eggs and salt. One Jar had plain water and the other jar had water mixed with salt.
Maths
Miss Doig and Mrs Lutterman's maths groups continued to focus on number knowledge and strategy setting up three rotations for the students to move around including seeing the teacher, maths activities and a follow-up worksheet.
Mrs Griffiths worked on basic facts for each stage the children had to use the strategies and knowledge from their groups to work out the answers.
Integrated Topic
For Integrated Topic, we have gone back into our groups for gardening, recycling, and research around orchards. Students were eager to get back into this as we completed some last term. Today Mrs Griffiths worked with the gardening group and they put some bean seeds in plastic bags and put them on the window. Miss Doig's groups used plastic straws and recyclable paper straws to drink some juice. They identified that they can drink from either straw and if we have a choice we should choose paper straws. Mrs Lutterman's groups did a Kahoot Quiz about some of the information they learnt with Mrs King in term 3, it was a good test to see what they could remember.
Te Reo Maori
This week we have been practising incorporating Maori into every day through saying kia ora and through saying a morning, end of day and a kai karakia. We have been doing these each day making sure we are saying it in time with each other. We have also been learning about how to ask what the weather is.
Physical Education
We have started preparing for Athletics. During PE time we have been getting outside practising jumping as far as we can, running around the field a few times and sprinting.
