What happened in the week that was? A lot!

Mr Morehu

Mr Morehu was away sick for most of last week, hopefully he will be feeling better on Monday!

Writing

Our writing continues to be fuelled by our topic of science. This week's experiments were:

With Ms O'Loughlin we learned about surface tension in water by using pepper and dish wash liquid to cause movement.

Mr Morehu had a go at making lava lamps to see how different substances mix and combine together to cause a reaction.

With Mr Horn we learned about changing states from a solid to a liquid by adding heat and back to a solid by cooling. We did this by melting plastic pony beads into sun catchers. In Mr Horn's writing class we have also been learning how to publish using iPads and Google Slides.

Maths

We didn't get time for much maths this week as a result of Cross Country on Thursday and our sod turning ceremony on Friday. However everyone still did a great job on their Maths Whizz, with Harmanpreet, Fletcher, and Katherine earning certificates this week.

Cross Country

Results will be announced at the Kakano assembly on Monday, we are all very proud of everyone who took part in the fun run as well as those who competed in the competitive run. We had a great turn out and even managed to sneak our runs in ahead of the rain.

Topic

This week's, in addition to our Monday writing experiments, we were conducting experiments using the scientific method on Tuesday and Friday. We conducted an experiment called "Moving Milk" by adding food colouring to a liquid than dipping a dish washing liquid covered cue-tip into the liquid, the greater the reaction the more the milk moved.

The scientific process required us to make a hypothesis, conduct an experiment where we only changed one thing. The thing we changed was the liquid in the bowl, using milk, cream, and water (Mr Horn also used lemonade, but that was probably just so he could drink some of it!). We compiled our results and determined milk had the greatest reaction.

PE

This week we added the "Hedgehog Roll" to our repertoire of rolls. To do a hedgehog roll we make our bodies into a tuck shape while face down on the mat. The challenging thing about the hedgehog roll is to keep up our momentum and keep our bodies tucked up.

Values Lessons

This week we have been focusing on keeping the cloak bay tidy and looking after our belongings. We do this by putting our coats under our bag and our belongings in our bag and zipping it up. Mr Horn sure did look funny demonstrating this for us. Our next step is to remember to put our belongings in our bags instead of dropping them around the classroom...
