Check out what's been happening in our first week back!

Reading

Mrs Kings reading class has begun working on Chapter Chat as a part of their reading activities this is really good for comprehension skills and developing their skills as readers as well as having some fun. The book they are reading before their reading group rotation is Slime.

Slime by David Walliams - David Williams said: “All children love slime, so I hope they will love this book too. It tells the story of how slime was created, and a boy uses it to wreak revenge on some nasty grown-ups.”

During Reading, Miss Doig's and Mrs G's class have been continuing our reading rotations. The children continue to be engaged in the reading rotations. We have independent reading, listening using  Epic, Handwriting, teacher, reading games and follow up activities which work on key skills we focus on during our guided reading session.

Our big book this week was pretty patterns and the children created their own patterns as a follow-up task.

Maths

Miss Doig's and Mrs King's class they have been finishing up their fractions they have learnt lots about what 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 is and how to find them also how to find  1/2, 1/4 and 1/3 out of a number.

Mrs G's class have just begun working on fractions we are in our second out of three weeks of learning about fractions and how to find 1/2, 1/4 and 1/3.

One of Mrs G's groups has begun working on their 5 times tables this week we learnt what times tables were and we used the addition strategy to work out our time tables eg 5x2 = 5+5 = 10.

Maths-Whizz Certificates

Well done to all the student's that have been working hard on your maths progressions each week. We are really proud of you extending yourself and your knowledge.

Awesome work to those students that completed the 8-week challenge to maintain your green tick. Here's to another term and another challenge if you can get 3 - 4 progressions each week to get your green tick you will get another certificate at the end of the term.

Writing

We are continuing our experiments this term as it created so much interest and creative writing last term. The children are really enjoying the writing programme and getting to participate in fun creative experiments.

This week we did an experiment with skittles and hot water and watched all the colours come out into the water on the plate and make a rainbow check out some of the photos below to see our colourful plates.

Quick 60 - Mrs G is running a structured programme where the children focus on sound knowledge, spelling, sentence structure, writing and reading a story with the same sounds we practice in our lessons. The children have enjoyed their first two days of the programme and have learnt how to spell a range of new words using repetitive sounds. These children are still doing experiments and writing about their experiences.

Maori

We have been completing a rotation for Maori each Friday. The three rotations include students singing particularly Happy Birthday in Te Reo and Sign Language, Hand Games and learning new Karikia's for Kai.

P.E / Fitness

We have been practising for our cross country and doing some long runs around the field and the courts to build up the students skills to run for longer periods of time.
