Check out what Hub 2 has been up to.

Reading

In Reading Mrs King's class have finished their slime chapter book and have moved on to a classic, Mr Stink. They continue discussing new words and their meanings. Students have been showing a lot of excitement around chapter chat and are keen to get to it and grow their knowledge and understanding of the text they are reading.

Miss Doig's and Mrs Griffths reading class have been working well to independently take themselves to and from activities when not with the teacher. Activities include handwriting on whiteboards, blend worksheets, listening activities on epic, and reading independently. Students have been showing us that they are capable of managing themselves using their own booklet with their weekly activities in.

Writing

This week our science experiment was called "Fizzing Emotions". Students worked in small groups, where they had 2 rolls baking soda, food colouring and vinegar. Students were amazed to see that after the vinegar was poured in the colours fizzed and bubbled over the top of the rolls. Students had some great discussions around the experiment and developed a bank of words to write in their stories. We have been so impressed with the quality of writing the children are starting to produce.

Maths

This week has been Maths week! We have been using the maths challenge called Daily Dollar from the Maths Week challenges. The students have enjoyed the challenges and working with others to solve the problems presented to them.

Maori

This week we have continued practising our Karakia before we eat our Kai. The students are great at reminding the teachers that we need to do karakia as they understand the importance of showing they are thankful.

We have also been lucky enough to have Whaea T work with us this week on learning a Karakia to begin the day and a Karakia to end the day the children did so well with their pronunciation and have picked them up really quickly.

Physical Education

In preparation for cross country students have been pushing themselves to do extra laps when running. As well as running around the field course we have also been skipping and playing games. Students are always eager to get outside for a stretch and a run-around.

Integrated Topic

This week in Recycling students discussed and identified what goes into the rubbish bin and what goes into the recycling bin. In Gardening, students looked at the anatomy of a plant and what a plant has on it. Lastly, in the Orchards group students have been making fresh lemonade with lemons and sugar.

Mufti Day

Today the children dressed in Mufti to support the SPCA thanks for all your donations for this great organisation. The children looked wonderful in their outfits and Miss Doig came as a zookeeper and had some wee animals in her pouch bag. Take a look at the photos of the class.

Have a great weekend.
