Spring is in the air and boys still play. In fact spring lambs is an apt analogy.

As we all know, Mr Hall picks a poem to be the focus for the school year. This year it is the poem, The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost. Last year it was, Invictus, by William Ernest Henley and the year before that it was, If, by Rudyard Kipling. 

Otago Boys' was invited to be the first group of students to experience a secondary school program overnight at Orokonui Ecosanctuary. 

The library was buzzing with wonderful words and superb syntax during our annual lunchtime Poetry Slam to celebrate National Poetry Day. 

A disease has fallen upon our planet. A pestilence that provokes my impatience. A widely known, little thought of phenomenon that grinds my gears. Slow walkers. They’re out there. Traipsing and meandering without a care in the world. 

This week has seen teams of three go head to head in the annual OBHS Debate Competition. The arguments have been fierce in the first round and the rebuttal tenacious too as our boys have battled their wit and intellect during lunchtimes.

The Year 12/13 Outdoor Education class travelled to Coronet Peak for four days to work toward a Level 3 practical assessment.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be one of five kiwi’s to be selected by Sir Russell Coutts to compete in the 2017 Open BIC Sailing World Championships in Circolo Vela Arco at the top of Lake Garda in Northern Italy.

Congratulations to Year 10 student Gracin Harrex who was  named Player of the Year for the Otago region at the Squash Interclub prize giving held recently.

On Wednesday the OBHS 2nd XI Football team faced the mighty Kaikorai Valley College 1st XI in the 3rd division boys final. 

Year 12 student Thomas Grant and Logan Whitty (Year 10) have been selected as representatives from the Otago region and will fly to Wellington on an all expenses paid trip to be hosted by NZ Rugby to referee in the New Zealand Rippa Rugby Finals.
