All of you before me, are in your youth. The growing up phase. The figuring out life phase. We’re all somewhere along this journey we call growing up, and all of our paths look different, weird and obscure to one another.

On Thursday 15th September the school is opening its doors to the whole community to view the outcomes of a project our junior boys completed in the last week of Term 2.

On Thursday 15 September academic coaching will be held for all students in Years 11, 12 and 13.

On Thursday after school at Kaikorai Valley College fifteen Year 9 and 10 students valiantly represented the castle on the hill.

Congratulations to our Theatre Sports team who placed 2nd (equal) for Otago/Southland in the Regional Final held at the Fortune Theatre this week.

I am currently on the Gateway programme and interested in Civil Engineering. I am hosted by Farra Engineering. While at work placement I learn new skills that will be invaluable to me when I leave school. 

The football first’s travelled to compete in the Malcom Cowie tournament in Auckland. We knew we had a very tough pool with 3 Auckland schools, Massey, Rangitoto and Western Springs. We also had Matamata College and St Andrew's from Christchurch.

Congratulations to Year 10 student Joseph Hancock who won the Under 15 grade at the New Zealand age group golf championships in Nelson last week. Joseph is a member of the Otago Under 16 team who will travel to Cambridge to defend their national junior title later in the month. 

With an average age of 15, our team was always going to have a tough week at the top tournament in the country. With a first up loss to Wellington competition winners Wellington College, our next game against St. Kentigern was our best chance to get a win in pool play.

There were plenty of highlights for all of our teams during tournament week, but Senior A basketballer and Year 11 student Ben Reeves' efforts may take some beating. 

Congratulations to Taiaroa Flavell, Nathan Hanna and Harley Ruru who have been selected to attend the National Talent ID camp. This is their first step in the pathway to the Junior Tall Blacks in 2017. A group of 30 athletes will then attend a camp in December to pick a squad of 20. We wish them well!

The OBHS curling team had another great result coming away with a silver medal in the South Island Secondary Schools Curling Tournament.

Our Senior A basketball team finished runners-up at the South Island Secondary Schools’ tournament, losing to Christchurch Boys’ High School in the final on Saturday night.

The OBHS Athletics team are fundraising so they can travel to the national competition in Auckland being held in December.

Following the success of Space Camp 2016 students who will be in Year11, Year12 or Year13 in 2018 are invited to apply for the next lift off! 

Rabia’s visit, exclusively to Dunedin, has been organised by the Otago Medical Research Foundation with funds raised going to the Foundation’s work of establishing world-class research right here in the city.

Otago Boys' will be taking a group of students on an expedition to Borneo in January of 2018, with World Challenge Expeditions. If you are interested, please contact justin.zani@obhs.school.nz.

As much as possible, could boys and parents please make all medical, (off site) physio, dentist and driving lesson appointments for students out of school time. These one off, but sometimes frequent absences during the year can have a considerable impact on student learning. Your support is appreciated.
