Introducing Katie R

Upper School English & Humanities

Kia ora koutou. I teach mainly English and Social Sciences in the Upper School and am also one of the Class 11 Kaiarataki teachers this year. Before moving to New Zealand 5 years ago, I had been an intermediate English teacher for 17 years in a mainstream school. I'm so grateful that my family has found such a supportive and warm community here at Raphael House.

In my spare time, I enjoy crafting, reading, watching movies, batch cooking, hosting and attending themed parties, and bush walks. I experience great joy when I happen upon majestic-looking trees while exploring, find nothing funnier than listening to really bad singing, and feel at peace with the world when holding babies.

Introducing Line

Learning Support

'Kia ora! I'm Line [LEE-nuh], not Lina, Lena, or Lene - just Line (short for Caroline).

Before moving to New Zealand with my husband and two boys in 2013, I worked for 20 years as a wig knotter/wig maker and special makeup artist in the European film industry.

I also ran my own wig workshop in Cologne, Germany, where my team and I crafted wigs and hairpieces for musicals, shows, theatre productions and movies.

What was meant to be a short stay in New Zealand turned into 12 years and counting!

Being 19,000 km away from home has its challenges, especially during special occasions. However, Raphael House has become somehow my second home, providing a sense of belonging.

I started as a Learning Support Assistant in the Upper School in 2020 and began working in the Lower School in 2023, which I absolutely love. This role allows me to connect with children of all ages, build relationships, and support them in their school journey.

In addition to my role as a Learning Support Assistant, I also serve as a Homestay Coordinator, providing support and coordination for our international students and their host families.

Since the beginning of 2025, I've been studying art therapy, providing me with another amazing opportunity to work with children and adults on a different level.

I truly believe I have the best job in the world!'
