Filipino Parents’ workshop

We are delighted to inform you that our Filipino parents are getting a great opportunity to attend free workshops as part of a project funded by the Ministry of Education.

The workshops are specially designed for RHS Filipino parents. The topics cover a range of important areas including the NZ education system, NCEA, career goals and pathways, social and emotional development of children, biculturalism and multiculturalism, etc.

Starting on August 15, ten workshop sessions will be delivered every Saturday evening until November 7 (excluding term break). At the end of the workshops, parents will be eligible to attend a graduation ceremony, complete with graduation speeches and a graduation certificate.

We arranged a Filipino parents’ evening on June 25 to inform our Filipino parents about this opportunity. They were quite excited to know about it, with some of them even sharing the sentiment that it was long overdue.

It was the second successful Filipino parents’ event of the year. Delicious Filipino dishes and fun games made the event joyful. We also carried out a survey on the event, and the schedule of the workshop topics have been chosen by analysing those survey results.

Another intention of this event was to do a post-celebration of the Filipino Independence Day (June 12) since we could not arrange a grand celebration this year due to Covid-19 restrictions. To compensate, the Filipino students associated with the MAD team have made a lovely video to share the pride.

A huge shout-out to the team for their efforts! Check out the video by visiting the link below:

Special thanks to our Board of Trustees parent representative, Alvin Borlaza who was present at the event, and has agreed to be a part of the MoE project along with Gisel Ong, Seth Tio, Delia Talili, Sharnali Tisi, Angela Bland, and Neil Haywood.

We also thank the fabulous RHS Filipino band for entertaining us with their beautiful music throughout the evening. Big thanks to all the staff and students who were involved to make the event successful!
