Updating our End of Semester Reports

Over the last few eNewsletters we have been sharing some of the changes we are making to our end of semester Achievement and Learning Update (report), in response to feedback we requested from our whānau - thank you to those who initially filled in that feedback.

We have sent home a sample Achievement and Learning Update to a small whānau group to get further feedback on the changes we have made to date. We are pleased with how much positive feedback we are getting and the suggested changes to make them more user friendly for whānau and students.

One aspect we do want to respond to is the teacher comment for each module that has been requested. We know that the time invested in writing these comments is best used to provide feedback regularly and in an ongoing way directly on to evidence of student learning, and that this feedback be visible to students and parents in ‘real-time’ through our LMS (Learning Management System) Schoology. These comments make a difference to learning while summative report comments do not. Here are some examples of feedback aimed at improving learning that you might find on your child’s learning in Schoology:

  • Well done Melissa! This is awesome! To take your ideas to the next step in the PEEL paragraph you need to link how the sounds/setting affect the theme of jealousy and hate.

  • Really great start. You provided some evidence of the costs related to your needs and wants and you have identified what are needs and what are wants. Make sure to explain how your decisions are influenced by your needs and wants and to evaluate or rank your needs and wants. Remember to answer: What changes do you feel are necessary to your personal budget as a result of the information you have discovered?

  • You've made a great start here Becky. If you were able to finish the respiration part with how the ATP energy is used by cells more specifically for cellular processes, your grade would be Relational.

  • Well done Chris, you are beginning to make links to the director's purpose through the film techniques. Your next step would be to follow the PEEL structure from last week, explaining how two different film techniques show the director's purpose. At the moment your paragraph is retelling the story.

  • Well done. You provided evidence of the costs related to your needs and wants and clearly identified what are needs and what are wants. Also you have evaluated or ranked your needs and wants. Remember to answer: What changes do you feel are necessary to your personal budget as a result of the information you have discovered? And please make sure to explain how your decisions are influenced by your needs and wants.
