Welcome to Week 5 everyone. A long weekend coming up and I hope you all get the opportunity to enjoy some extra down time with your whānau.
This Friday we have another Teacher Only Day and this time the focus is on the development and sharing of our localised curriculum. This development has been ongoing over the last 2 years in partnership with our local hapū, Ngāti Wairere who have assisted in capturing the rich history of our area from a Māori perspective. We look forward to this local curriculum providing a rich resource for the schools in our Kahui Āko (stretching from Woodstock school through to us, 19 schools in all) to engage in a critical discourse with our young people within the context of our learning programmes here at school. Speakers on Friday, Joanna Kidman, Vincent o’Malley, Tom Roa and Mere Berryman all have a list of qualifications as historians and academics who will share the importance and significance of this new resource and how it can make a difference in our schools.
Three students from the Senior High School; Alyssa Sayers, Ella Schaab and Nyla Ray have been looking at health and wellbeing and how they can look at ways to strengthen this in the community.
