Our Trip to the National Library, by Juno Iversen.

Last week, as part of “Books Alive”, me and my class went to the National Library to introduce us to writers and illustrators. I think this was to help us to like reading.

At first, we went to a small room and an illustrator read one of her books, “The Lighthouse Princess”. Then we wrote a comic book, but with only three boxes. I really liked drawing it.

Secondly, we went to a different room but this time it was huge and this whole time

there had been a different school going with us. There were two illustrators and one author, who were talking about their books. It was pretty cool because we heard about their stories from when they were younger, and how they became illustrators or authors.

This time we didn’t go into a room! We were in the corridor. There was a illustrator. We had to say different animals and he made a weird creature called The Guzzler.

I had an awesome time at the National Library.

Last week the Year 4 students went to the New Zealand National Library because we were going to meet some extremely talented illustrators and authors from the NZ book awards.

Before the trip I felt excited because we were going to see some talented artists. I felt amazed by how the illustrators drew. I learned that you don’t have to rub out to draw like an artist.
