Y8 Formal  by Te Kura o Kirikiri Tatangi Seatoun School

Kia ora,

Excitement is building as the year closes in on us. This is our final full newsletter for 2023.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to our school.  You help significantly to make Seatoun School the remarkable place it is. Thank you all for your continued support.

"Whoever, whatever, wherever and however" you spend the holidays, I hope you get lots of time to rest, relax and re-charge, ready to return for 2024!

Year 8 Leavers Evening

Tuesday evening, we had our formal farewell for our year 8 leavers. It was a wonderful night acknowledging the student's journey through our school. We had a great turnout of parents to celebrate and support their children. A team of talented and dedicated year 7 students created a winter wonderland theme, thank you to them for their hard work.

Special thank you to Eileen Mueller and Angeline Harrington, plus a large group of year 7 parents, for all their hard work in preparation and on the night.

Our community also pitched in to support us. It takes a village, and we have a great one! We would like to say a special thank you to the following local businesses:

- Cameron Harrison, Seatoun
- Liquorland, Miramar

Reports, class lists, self reviews and stationery lists

Tomorrow your child will bring an envelope home that is addressed to you.  It will include self-reviews, class lists and stationery lists. The end-of-year summary reports will be published via Hero.

As a parent, we have many roles in supporting our children. Some of these jobs include providing food and shelter, sending them to school and being their advocate. It also includes preparing them for the real world. As we know, in the real world we do not always get what we want. Dealing with this is often termed resilience.

Developing resilience in our children is such an important part of our role as we help them deal constructively with the inevitable setbacks they will meet. We make a special mention of this as we are sharing the new class placements.

When you see the placements, it may not be your preferred choice but please be reassured that teachers and leaders in the school have spent countless hours pondering the best place for each child. We take into account social, emotional and academic needs when establishing the best fit for them. Your child may not be with their best friend. This is OK. They can still see them every day, and it allows them to develop other relationships. Your child may be the youngest or oldest in a group, we might have recognised the need for them to develop leadership skills or to develop an understanding of what it means to be led. Every decision has a great deal of thought behind it. Please do not contact the school about your child's class placement unless we have made an error.

Final Hui - 9.30 start

The weather is looking reasonable for tomorrow, but the wind will be stronger.  We will be basing ourselves outside the Hall, not on the field.  Please bring a sun hat and a deck chair.  Students in year 3-7 are encouraged to bring a cushion to sit on.

Holiday programme at the beginning of 2024
