Board of Trustees 26 October 2023

Board of Trustees  by Te Kura o Kirikiri Tatangi - Seatoun School

Term 4 is well underway and we remain hopeful of the arrival of spring, which will allow our ākonga more time outside in the sunshine and perhaps the return of Seatoun wharf jumping that has become a local rite of passage.

Please take a few minutes to answer four questions relating to our BYOD programmes and e-learning.  Access the form here.

We reflected proudly on the school production, Seussical the Musical, in the last week of Term 3. Feedback from students, teachers, and whānau was overwhelmingly positive. We want to say a special thanks to everyone involved for their contributions. It was an ambitious production, and it could not have been the success it was had it not been for the many volunteers. We want to thank our teachers for giving up an incredible amount of their personal time to ensure everything ran smoothly. We intend to review the production in the coming weeks to help plan for future events.

The Board has already met in October to prepare to implement the new school planning and reporting framework, called ‘Te Whakangārahu Ngātahi│Planning Together’. We have a more in-depth strategy session in early November to work through the detailed requirements of the new framework. One of the areas of focus of the framework is community engagement and we look forward to working with our local community groups to build on existing relationships.

Many of the highly valued services that Seatoun School provides are only possible due to your generous donations. We acknowledge that there are many financial challenges due to the current cost of living, and your continued support is, as always, gratefully appreciated.

Last Friday, we hosted our Honouring the Centenary event. Around 60 past students spent a wonderful afternoon learning about school today and remembering their years at Seatoun School. It was tremendous to have representatives from each decade speak, with Mrs Sunny Avery, 95 years old, starting the presentation by talking about attending school in the 1930’s. Thank you again to the staff and in particular, Caroline Woon, Centenary Chair, for arranging this event. You can see photos from the event here.

Also, did you know that in 1986 a full-length feature movie was released that was based in Seatoun and included the old school site? It is a horror movie, so make sure it is suitable for your child/ren, but it does show life in Seatoun in the 1980’s. You can find a link to the movie here.
