Newsletter Week 2, Term 4, 2020

Tēnā koutou,

Welcome back to school for an exciting and incredibly busy Term 4!

There are plenty of events and different things happening at school this term - some may look a little different to previous years too. Please keep an eye on the newsletters, our app and seesaw for updates.

Last term I wrote a short article in the newsletter around knowing what your children are doing when they are on their devices. I'd like to encourage you to talk with your learners and learn how they use devices and what sorts of apps they are on. I have had conversations recently with a number of parents who were surprised to hear about the sorts of inappropriate content their children have been exposed to on apps such as Tik Tok and Snapchat. At school, we feel teaching children to navigate the digital world is an important skill for their futures - and when interacting with others digitally, we still need to be showing kindness and respect. I like to use the phrase "would you say that to this person's face?" - and if the answer is "no" then it should not be said at all. Thank you for your support with this - working together we can achieve so much more!

I'm always happy to be contacted if you have any questions or would like to catch up about anything. Don't hesitate to email me or contact the office if you'd like to make an appointment.
