Last week marked Support Staff appreciation week - a time to acknowledge the positive difference this amazing group of people make to our school every day.

Your voice is important in helping us to refine and work on our policies and procedures.

There is a lot of sickness in the community at the moment. We ask that you please contact the school on a daily basis before 9.00am if your child is not well so that we know he or she is home safe with you. Children should stay home from school for at least 48 hours after the last time they vomit or have diarrhoea.

Laid out in front of us were thousands of native trees ready to be planted.

This term we have two teacher only days: Friday, 18th June (This day is Kāhui Ako wide - including Berkley Middle School and Hillcrest High School) and the last day of the school term, Friday, 9th July. The Patricia Avenue Satellite Unit (Room 18) has a teacher only day on Monday, 21st June.

We would like to encourage you to come along and celebrate Fête de la Musique with us on Monday, 21st June at morning tea time from 11.00 to 11.30am. If you or your child plays a musical instrument, please bring it to play and join in the fun.

On Monday, 21st June, we will be holding our annual Pyjama Day! This is a fun day here at school where children come dressed in their Pyjamas and take part in fun activities in class. We also use this as an opportunity to make a positive difference in our community. Every year we ask for donations during Pyjama Day which we collect and donate to Waikids up at Waikato hospital (see their facebook page to check out some of the great work they do). There is no obligation for you to donate, but if you'd like to help us support this worthy cause you are welcome to donate any of the following: New children's pyjamas, new children's underwear, new soft toys, or a gold coin (we use any money raised to purchase more of the above).

During Term 2, Room 18 are learning about volcanoes, and with this, rocks and rock hunting.

Our lost property bins are overflowing with unnamed warm clothing. It must belong to someone. Please name any clothing you children are likely to leave in the playground so it can be returned to them.

Well done to these learners - recognised for making a positive difference.

All games are held at Gallagher's Hockey Centre unless otherwise specified.

In the Junior School we have been very busy learning about all the ways we can keep safe around cars and roads.

The Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is a group of parents and teachers that work to create fun events for the kids and fundraise for the school. We always welcome new members - we’d love to see some new faces at our meetings. Our next meeting is this Wednesday, 16th June at 7.00pm in the staffroom. If you can’t commit to meetings but would like to help out at events, please let us know. We especially need parents that can help out during the day occasionally.

The Parent Teacher Group's annual Oxford Pie Fundraiser is now on. Order forms were sent home ten days ago. All orders need to be back at school by Tuesday, 22nd June. Orders will be delivered to school on Thursday, 1st July.

We are an online store, with close to 10,000 products available for purchase. Silverdale Normal School will receive 50% of the profits from each sale made. As a parent or supporter of the school you now have the option to make your next purchase through this store, knowing that you have not only paid the same as elsewhere (or even lower) but that a significant portion of the profits is going to help Silverdale Normal School .

If you wish to order lunch for your child, we have two options for ordering school lunches.

Can you please ensure you have a change of clothing packed in your child’s school bag each day. It is more important than ever during the winter months.

Please continue to collect the Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers for our school’s share of the $200,000 free DG Sport sports gear prize pool.
