Absences, illness and lateness

Absences
Parents are requested to load an absence for their child before 9am should a child be absent or late for school, via:

  1. Hero App

  2. phone 324 2545, then press 1 to leave an absence message

  3. email admin@southbridge.school.nz

If no information is received regarding an absence, parents or caregivers will receive a Hero text message or will be phoned to check the reason for the child's absence. Failure to notify the school causes a certain amount of extra work so advice of absences is appreciated. If we are unable to reach you or we do not receive a reply, your child will be marked as truant.

Please remember that illness can travel extremely quickly in a classroom/school environment. If in doubt as to whether your child is well enough to come to school, we would prefer you to exercise caution rather than send them to school and risk spreading any illness. We want our school to be a happy, healthy and safe environment to learn in, so we appreciate your support.

  • Children need to be symptom free from vomiting and diarrhoea for at least 36 hours before they return to school, as this eliminates the spread and gives them time to gain their energy back.

  • Children need to be able to manage their cough and runny nose before they return to school.

Lateness
If your child arrives after 9.00am they must come into the office to sign in. If they do not sign in and have missed the class roll you could still receive a Hero text regarding their absence. Thank you for your co-operation regarding this.
