Lent - a message from our Head of Service for 2021

Lent is beginning which means a time for reflection and preparation leading up to Easter.

Previously at SMC, we have held a Lent Market throughout this season. However, this year we are changing it up a bit.
Instead of the market, we are doing a ‘Lent Competition’.
Starting next week we will be collecting grocery and toiletry items, with labels and packaging that include our house colours.  For example, if you are in Rata you could bring Weetbix (a red packet). Kowhai - a can of corn. But please remember non-perishable items only.
When the collection period is over, each house will construct a sculpture using only the donated products.
Then, using a gold coin donation, students and staff will vote for their favourite sculpture - from this will come a winner.
Essentially, we are aiming to bring some house spirit to this event whilst collecting donations which will be passed onto the Anglican Church to support women and families in need in our community. This way we can all participate during the lent season.

Please start to bring your Lent offerings to your classroom when you are ready.
