A turbine device using the flow of water to glow a light to help farmers detect whether they have a water leak, is the latest invention created by students of St Paul’s Collegiate School to win them Fieldays 2020 Young Inventor of the Year.

This year St Paul’s held its inaugural “St Paul’s Got Talent” event on the last day of Term 2.

As part of school tradition, year 13 students who have displayed outstanding leadership skills throughout the year are commissioned to join the existing group of prefects.

From the Chapel a walkway now meanders through 218 specimen trees and 106 native grasses. The design brief to Tony Murrell, landscape designer, was to create a garden that represented and acknowledged our second campus, Tihoi Venture School.

A mufti day will be held on 16 September, with all proceeds going towards St John Ambulance, in remembrance of Mrs Sally Wootton.

The Mulgrew Recording Studio in the Mary Hornsby Music Centre has been given a voice and is helping to develop the creative minds of our students. Generously donated by Craig, Belinda, Dillon and Tyler the Mulgrew Recording Studio is allowing our students to bring their ideas to life.

As with many other sports and activities this year, the St Paul’s Collegiate School Ski Team had its plans changed considerably with the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic. Reverend Peter Rickman provides an update on where the team is heading.

Chloe was initially added to the squad as a training partner but has impressed selectors and been chosen in the final team who will play in the BEKO tournament beginning on Saturday 5 September. Chloe was only one of two secondary school aged players to be selected in the team.

Seven St Paul’s swimmers had their first swim meet post-lockdown at the Waikato Winter Short Course meet held in Te Awamutu over the weekend of 25-26 July.

This 1st XI boys’ hockey tournament was held in Christchurch over the period of 15-17 July 2020.

The 1st XI girls’ hockey team hosted Hamilton Girls’ High School, Sacred Heart Girls’ College, Otumoetai College and St Kentigern College for a two-day tournament in the first week of the July holiday break.

For 60-90 minutes, five times per week, Drake Walther, Mitchell Clark and Joe Harcourt were training to qualify for the CrossFit Nationals.

Te Awamutu teen Sam White has an impressive swim stroke and a heart to match.

Congratulations to Sam Cox, who was awarded the under 19 Emerging Volunteer Lifeguard of the Year at the Zespri Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Awards of Excellence. Sam represents the Pauanui Surf Life Saving Club. An awesome achievement!

A choir camp held during the Term 2 holidays sharpened the skills of our singers.

To date it certainly has been a very challenging year for the global community, for many in this nation and ourselves as a school family. None of us could have foreseen what would unfold as a result of that Coronavirus initial outbreak and the subsequent COVID-19 global pandemic. We travel in uncharted waters and hope and pray for a vaccine and an end to this difficult season of uncertainty and, at times, anxiety.

We have changed the date of our Community Gala to Friday 6 November from 3.30-6.00pm.

On Friday the 24th of July the annual announcement was made of the nominations for the Musical Theatre New Zealand Zone 2 theatre awards (the Zonys). The year for nominations runs from mid 2019 to mid 2020. Zone 2 runs from approximately the Bombay Hills down to the Manawatu and covers the entire width of the country.
