Summer holiday swimming success for St Paul’s Swim Club

There was no summer holiday rest for St Paul’s Swim Club as they competed in the National Open Water Championships finishing second place overall.

Five St Paul’s Collegiate School students represented the club at the meet in Taupo where competition distances ranged from 1km to 10km endurance races.

St Paul’s Swim Club won gold in the NZ Open Water 4x1km girls relay squad which included St Paul’s Laura Littlejohn. Laura also placed 2nd in the Mid Epic 1km race and broke nine Waikato records, including three Open Records, across the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events.

St Paul’s Swim Club also won the boys under 16 NZ Open Water 4x1km event which included our own Boston Tordoff and Samuel Peoples.

Boston Tordoff also placed 3rd in the Mid Epic 1km and 14th in the NZ Open 2.5km races.

Samuel Peoples placed 8th in the Mid Epic 1km, 3rd in the NZ Open Water 2.5km and 13th in the NZ Open Water 5km races.

St Paul’s Swim Club placed second in the boys 16 and over NZ Open Water 4x1km relay which included Matthew Chanwai.

Matthew also placed 4th in the Mid Epic 1km and 19th in the NZ Open 2.5km races.

Ben Haskell placed 5th in the Mid Epic 1km and 5th in the Epic 2.5km races.

Following the meet, Laura Littlejohn took part in the New Zealand Senior Squad training camp which proved a great opportunity to learn and train with New Zealand's leading swimmers.

Well done to our St Paul’s students who contributed to the club’s top national ranking.
