Meet the Prefects

Latasha Hastie - Head Boarder

Before coming to St Hilda’s, I attended Waikaka Primary, in the small town of Waikaka. I knew ever since I was a little girl that I wanted to go to Dunedin and attend St Hilda’s. Going on all the open days and country visits just blew my mind and made my dream even bigger. I still remember the day when I found out I was gonna become a St Hildas girl, I was so excited about the 5 years ahead and for what amazing opportunities were to come.

For the past 5 years, St Hilda’s has given me many incredible opportunities to explore and find my way to be my unique self. Over the years I have participated in numerous amounts of clubs and sports, such as Touch, Netball, Volleyball, Young Farmers Club and Wellbeing Club. I have also participated in the St Hilda’s Kapa Haka group and been on the Year 11 Formal Committee. St Hilda’s has also allowed me to travel to Auckland, being a part of the Maori BEAMS trip - as well as the Maori science trip based at Quarantine Island, Dunedin. St Hilda’s has allowed me to develop my leadership skills and grow as a person. I have loved being a part of and experiencing a whole different range of activities here.

Tolcarne has been a massive highlight of my schooling journey, living with friends and creating such a strong bond with the girls. I have learned to become an individual and become organised in my time management and responsibilities. Tolcarne has created so many amazing memories that I will forever cherish, such as the weekend activities, Tribes, and inspirational talks to help us think deeper and prepare for our future.

Being a Prefect has provided me so many amazing opportunities, to be able to grow not only as a person but also with my leadership skills. The start of the year has been busy with the 125th celebrations, but it has been a blast. I have been pushed outside of my comfort zone and to be my best that I can be. I am forever grateful for giving back to not only the school but also Tolcarne with my role as Head Boarder.

I have loved my high school years and I am so lucky to have experienced these amazing opportunities that St Hilda’s has allowed me to have. It has helped me to prepare for going into the big wide world, to just be myself and don’t be scared of the challenges ahead. I am excited for the rest of the year ahead!
