Board of Trustees

I am sure that all students, families and staff members will be very much looking forward to the break over the coming two weeks. The second term has its own challenges as the daylight hours get noticeably shorter and the temperatures take a big drop - eventually. Everyone seems to get a bit more tired than usual. Speaking of challenges, parents of senior students will no doubt be relieved to have survived the all consuming fake tans, make up sessions and hair appointments that put a dent in the credit card, sorry I meant studies, leading up to the Senior Formal. What a shame this is only once a year. A wonderful evening all the same.

At the start of term, the Board welcomed its newest member, Carthika Luxmanan, who has filled the spot left open following the retirement of Lauren Semple. This term the Board received a presentation on the challenges facing our International Department. Although the Ministry of Education is sympathetic to the challenges and uncertainty regarding international students, there is no clarity as yet about what actions or assistance may be offered to improve the situation. On another topic, the process towards a new school uniform is progressing and further consultation with parents about uniform choices will be scheduled once the entire collection is finalised. On the building front, the Chapel/Whitby building project is progressing well, although encountering challenges along the way - at this stage it is anticipated going to tender in mid to late August.
This term, the staff have been able to enjoy the surrounds of the new staffroom - a long overdue upgrade and renovation has delivered a very smart and comfortable environment, with flexible work areas built in to provide for many different uses at the same time. Last but certainly not least, Judy Maw has done an outstanding job as the Acting Principal this term. It is never easy stepping temporarily into such a position but Judy has brought her own experience and personality to the role, while always maintaining the highest standard of professionalism and putting the students front and centre of all decisions. The school is very fortunate to have such an able person as part of its Senior Leadership Team.
Wishing you all a very relaxing time over the break.
