St Hilda's Careers Evening

At Careers Evening tonight we were inspired by our guest speaker, Rasha Abu-Safieh. Rasha was named Time Magazine’s Next Generation Leader in 2018, after starting 'GGateway', a social enterprise which helps ICT graduates into employment (in her home city of Gaza). Rasha now lives in Dunedin, works at Otago University and is an Edmund Hillary fellow.

Rasha spoke about her life, career, and talked about the many challenges and struggles she has encountered along the way. Her passion and positivity was inspirational. She taught us to see challenges as opportunities, and that even if 100 doors are closed, you only need to find one that opens to move forward.

After Rasha’s talk, students could select two panel discussions to attend from the following options: Animal Care & Conservation; Arts & Media; Community/Law/Safety; Health, and Primary Industries. The panelists, who all had their own inspiring stories, shared their insights and experiences in their respective fields. The evening was a wonderful way for the girls to broaden their knowledge about a wide range of career options and pathways. Thank you to Mrs Ritchie for putting together such an inspirational and informative event!
