A very enjoyable hockey season came to a perfect end when the Tahuna "A" squad took out the Year 7/8 competition final with a convincing 5-0 win over Balmacewen last Friday.

Tahuna values are interwoven throughout the classroom programmes and everyday school life. They are also a big part of our reward and acknowledgement system.

Term 3 is fully underway - full noise so to speak - with lots happening over the past two weeks and more to come.  We have had the Ukulele Jam, Stars on Stage and we had two of our Rock bands - Acoustic Heroes and Rodeo Clowns, compete at the Rockshop Bandquest competition.  Rodeo Clowns taking out the top prize.

Wow! Fast paced and slick, colourful and cool. This year's performance had something for everyone and was a big hit with the audience.

Year 7 Food Technology students from team 1C and 2C did a fabulous job baking and decorating over 150 cupcakes on Thursday to raise just over $300 for the SPCA

Every year there is a search for the best NZ primary and intermediate schools rock band, called ROCKSHOP BANDQUEST. Two Tahuna teams did a great job of rocking it out and cementing their place nationally.

Two weeks ago, from Tuesday 11th of August to Saturday 15th August, I competed in the New Zealand Swimming Short Course Championships held in Auckland.

A couple of weeks ago Remeura Intermediate made the journey south as part of our annual exchange.

We are currently taking enrolments in Year 7 and 8 for 2016. Please complete the enrolment card or online form if you have a child coming to Tahuna. Encourage friends and family who have children coming to Tahuna to please get this done also. This means we can start planning our classes and staffing for 2016 on time.

Regionals for Aerobics were held on Saturday 8th and Sunday the 9th of August. It was held at the Kings and Queens Performing Arts Centre. Those competing from Tahuna included Amaya Leslie, Jessica Scott,Ruby Cameron, Amberly Orr, Emily MCLennan, Wairaamia Taratoa-Bannister and Me (Nelia McDowall). 

My name is Amaya Leslie and I am a senior artistic gymnast. Many people ask me what that means so I am going to provide you with an insight into this amazing sport and what it takes to be a senior gymnast.

What are nutrients? What do they do in the body? What are processed foods?

Stencil design, screen printing and project construction are just a few tasks that students complete during their time in textiles.

Last week was the final round of the Dunedin netball competition at the Edgar Centre. Nine of our Tahuna teams had qualified for play offs in their sections. 

Our Cook Island girls have been busy practising their items with Mrs Keni Moeroa in the build up for the upcoming Polyfest. This group has also been invited to perform at the Museum on Saturday, the 19th of September as part of a special Cook Island Tivaevae celebration.   (All 3 Tahuna groups are performing on the Wednesday evening of the 16th of September.)

On Tuesday's after school the Badminton Stadium has a large number of year7 and year 8 Tahuna pupils competing in games of singles and doubles.

Tahuna has been hosting a group of Year 6's from a number of schools around Dunedin for extension science.

It is the time of year when you will be deciding upon the high school that your Year 8 child will be attending next year. High schools are asking us to encourage parents of Year Eight students to please enrol your child when you have made your decision. All Year Eight's at Tahuna get the opportunity to attend Open Mornings and Open Nights but if you would like a more personalised look around please don't hesitate to ask. Staff from Dunedin High Schools will be talking to Classroom teachers in term four. 

"What a great snow year we are having! There is wall to wall riding with great snow cover over the whole mountain", was the initial reaction of the Coronet staff, when we arrived for our first morning of our annual Tahuna School Ski trip. We knew it was going to be a fantastic weekend!

On Friday the 31st of July we had an Interschool Football Match against Kavanagh College played at Tahuna Park. The game kicked off at 1:15 and all the Tahuna Team played well showing a great standard of skills and conduct.

Yes, we currently have head lice at school. Please check your child regularly for Head Lice. 

On Sunday the 23rd of August, Morgan and Cailin competed in the Gymnastics Competition at Willis Street Gym. They competed on these following apparatus: Floor, Vault, Uneven Bar and Beam. Cailin got the total of 34.8 achieving a bronze medal. Morgan got a total of 34.975 achieving the Silver medal.  Morgan and Cailin are both in Regional Competition Gold Level and represent D.G.A          (Dunedin Gymnastics Academy ). They hope to get more medals in the future competitions.

Due to Marlow Pies moving their base from South Dunedin they are no longer able to deliver their products to Tahuna. We are therefore sourcing our canteen products from another retailer in our immediate area. We have had a long association with Marlows and enjoyed their high quality products. We thank them for their wonderful service and wish them well in their new premises in Kaikorai Valley.
