Wow what a start to the term!

Recently the government released their 'Attendance and Engagement Strategy' to tackle the decline in regular attendance and engagement in schools. Their catchphrase is 'Everday Matters'.

Four of our Tahuna netball teams played in finals that were held on Thursday 25th August.

A big congratulations to our classmate Gregor Watts who was part of the Y8 A O'Mathalon team. After extensive trialling and training, the O'Mathalon took place on Thursday night at the Edgar Centre. The Y8 A Team placed 3rd out of around 40 teams. We are very proud of you Gregor! Also a big thank you to Mr Owen for all your hard work with the groups.

This week we had another furry visitor!! Hannahs 4 month old puppy called Spud.

On Tuesday, Mr Cook-Bonney came and taught Room 13 about makey makeys. Makey Makeys allow you use anything as a computer, like a part of your body. We used Makey Makeys to make our hands (and other things) as the keys to move to a game called Jump Frog. When then began coding. We used Scratch to code and the Makey Makeys to make pieces of paper into buttons. We learnt about different conductors, including graphite which is in pencils. We then drew buttons on pieces of paper, connected the Makey Makeys and recorded sound. We then coded using scratch, so when one button is pressed, a sound clip that was recorded then played. It was so much fun and we learned a lot about different types of digital technology and how we can incorporate into our Kaitiaki project. Thanks Mr Cook-Bonney!
