The Tahuna Hall was full for the welcoming assembly on the first day of school. Te Taiopeka welcomed the new students and teachers into the hall before Mr Hunter gave his opening address. Staff were also introduced to the students and a warm welcome was given to our International Students.

The Canteen provides food through ordering Tuesday-Friday. Most food needs to be ordered as it is supplied to the school through outside providers. Students can order in their classroom in the morning. The Canteen is open for sales at lunchtime Tuesday-Friday with limited items for sale.

In 2018 we are hosting groups of students from China.

Next week our Chocolate Fundraiser will be starting. This is our major fundraiser each year and all proceeds will be going towards more iPads within the classrooms. This year we have opted for a different Cadburys product.

Sports are underway already in Term One. Please remind your children to go along to meetings if they are interested in playing a summer sport.

As part of our Year 8 Unit on Pasifika, all Year 8 classes will visit the Otago Museum to take part in the Maori Art and Music Education programme and the Celebrating the Pacific Education Programme.

It has been a wonderful start to 2016 in Year 7 with our new Tahuna students looking fantastic in their uniforms and eager to be involved in whatever is on offer.

Six new mobile design benches have changed the way students can arrange their Technology learning environment.

Tahuna is lucky enough to have three Mandarin Language Assistants joining us this year to support our classroom teachers in teaching Mandarin Chinese. We have welcomed, Liu Xin Yu, Ren Xin and Peng Zheng. They will be working in all our classes over the course of the year as well as going out to many other schools in our community. We look forward to working with them and benefiting from their expertise. 

Miss Cooper liked Tahuna so much as a College Teacher she decided to come back and start her teaching career here.

The Tahuna library is incredibly well resourced and has a wide range of books and things to do.

Our vision is that at Tahuna all students will be given every opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to use mathematics effectively in everyday life. 

For the first 3 week of the term we are lucky to have 15 Chinese students visiting from Beijing and Guangzhou.

Tahuna has become renowned for excellence in the Performing Arts. The opportunities for students to perform are many and varied, from performing at the closing ceremony of the Special Olympics to winning the Band Quest to performing for the Royal visit . 

A five-week adult and children’s beginner’s fencing course starts on Monday the 15th of February 5.30pm – 6.30pm. The course costs $80.00 and all equipment is provided. It is a great introduction to this exciting sport. For more information and enrollment email us at claymoreswordsclub@gmail.com

An opportunity exists for a business to work together with us to get a Tahuna App developed for 2016. As we have invested in our electronic newsletter we are also looking to introduce an App to keep students and parents informed.
