Drop Off Zone and Pick Up!

  • The original design for Taumata School was issued with an allocated number of carparks based on the anticipated staff working onsite. The currently allocated car parks are based on a school with a student roll of 650 students. Therefore it is expected that most car parks will be utilised by school staff - ensuring parking on the local/surrounding streets by staff is not an issue

  • Schools are built to accommodate the needs of students - not VEHICLES/traffic. A designated drop-zone was designed however it relies on the education and support of parents/whanau to ALWAYS ensure STUDENT SAFETY as a priority.

  • We do not tolerate poor 'driver behaviour' because you are running late or there are no available parking spaces.  We need all parents/whanau to work with us and ensure that all students are safe.  This includes encouraging children to use crossings, discouraging parking on the median strip, discouraging children running across the road to meet you, discouraging parking on footpaths and grass berms.

  • As a school there is an expectation that we will ACTIVELY promote environmentally friendly options for travelling to and from school. We are fortunate in that the majority of our students live locally and are able to travel to and from school using the footpaths available. The goal is to MINIMISE traffic flowing around and through the school site.

  • Building LEARNER AGENCY and GRIT with students means modelling how they can manage getting themselves safely to and from school. This may require close drop offs initially and then gradually increasing independence and clear guidelines on what to do in various situations.
