Gathering Information that Informs Learning Design

The first few weeks have been focused on gathering data that helps us to determine what needs to be taught.

We wanted to share with you the wonderful work our learning coaches have been doing with your child over the past couple of weeks. Your child might have mentioned activities, such as one-on-one maths questions, spelling tests, writing samples, or reading comprehension exercises. These activities allow our team to gather information. By carefully observing and documenting your child's performance, we gain a deeper understanding of their strengths, identify areas for growth, and determine next learning steps. This information is invaluable as it allows us to personalise our teaching approach to meet the specific needs of each individual student.

For example, during the one-on-one math sessions, teachers engage students in targeted questioning to gauge their understanding of mathematical concepts. Similarly, spelling tests and writing samples help us assess literacy skills, while reading skills record will provide insight into your child's ability to decode (read the words), comprehend the words and critically think about text.

We encourage you to talk with your child about any tests they may have done with their learning coaches and how they felt about these activities.
