Whiria te tāngata - 8 September

Pātaka Kai - Food Pantry

As part our Inquiry Learning this term, our Tūī Rua students have been exploring the concept Mātau Whenua (our land) and the importance of manākitanga (love and kindness) - a concept that is important to our Tangata Whenua Māori, a concept that is important to us all.

Manākitanga is one of the most important concepts to Māori people as it secures the strength of our whānau (families) and community.

Whakataukī (Māōri Proverb)

E iti noa ana, nā te aroha.
Although it is small, it is given with love.

On our learning journey, when learning about traditional methods of storing kai such as kumara in pātaka (storehouse - raised upon posts to store food), we also discovered ‘Pātaka Kai’ (free food pantries) which are a fantastic free way of sharing and giving back to our communities today.

Our children will be setting up a school food pantry to share with our community on Friday 15th September from 2.00-2.45 pm outside our kura (school) office, which we welcome you to come and enjoy - please bring friends and family too.

If you are willing and able to donate any fresh produce, canned food and/or baking, a small amount per family would be greatly appreciated. Food items can be delivered to Tūī Rua or inside the school office.
