Whiria te tāngata - 28 November

Hui-ā-whānau (Student-Parent-Teacher meetings)

Around 87% of our families have booked for Hui-ā-whānau but we would love to get this number closer to 100%.

Our Hui-ā-whānau meetings are taking place on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th November.

As our school year draws to a close it is important that we celebrate our learners and their successes. Students will meet with you and their teacher(s) to share their learning, progress, goals and achievement. Our Hui-ā-whānau provide the opportunity for every single one of our students to celebrate their highlights of the year and share their learning.

Many schools have large prize giving functions, where there may be speeches, performances and various awards for a limited number of students. However, as a school that prides itself on being inclusive, we believe that ALL of our learners are deserving of being celebrated, especially given the enormous challenges they have faced over the last few years. Many students have taken on new challenges, developed confidence, established new friendships, displayed empathy to others, learned a new language, and grown socially and emotionally. All of these are as important to recognise and celebrate as any academic progress. This has got nothing to do with “being PC” (a term I feel is often over-used…and indeed mis-used), but rather is about staying true to our core values of being community-minded and collaborative.

Our teachers will lead the initial part of the sessions, before your children are then encouraged to share other parts of their learning.

Bookings for Hui-ā-whānau can be made by logging into Hero & selecting 'School Bookings' on the main menu.

Full instructions on accessing & making bookings via Hero can be found the attached PDF document.

Note: the sessions are scheduled 15 minutes apart, but this is just to allow time for the teachers to spend part of the Hui-ā-whānau with you. The timeframe will often be longer depending on how much your child wishes to share with you so we recommend that you do not book back-to-back meetings for your children.

There will be free childcare available in Te Aroha (library/office area) for those that require it, to enable both parents/caregivers to attend.

We look forward to seeing you.
