Whiria te tāngata - 13 December

From Tony

Tomorrow brings the 2023 school year to a close, and we will have been open for 5 years!

In 2019 we opened the door to 117 students. Since then our roll has quadrupled!

Our school whakatauki (Māori proverb), Whiria te tāngata, means to weave the people together, and this is what I am most immensely proud of over the last 5 years.

The schoolwide culture at Te Ao Mārama is very special, and this was again highly evident at our recent Christmas in the Park & Hui-ā-whānau.

Culture is far more than just the “vibe” or “feeling”, and I am also incredibly proud of the learning culture that we have created. While our approach to teaching and learning may be different from many NZ schools, it is underpinned by research and a strong philosophy and vision. I am proud to share that we are seeing some fantastic results in our student achievement, and please see the next article for some initial snippets.

I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season, with an opportunity to unwind and enjoy time with loved ones.

To those whose children/families whose time is finishing at Te Ao Mārama, we wish you all the best for the future, and to those returning in 2024, we look forward to seeing you next year.
