Pāwaha o Te Kura o Te Ao Mārama

On Tuesday this week we held an early morning blessing with a gathering of many members of our community.

This structure is called a Pāwaha which shares the deep narrative of our school and our special connection with Ngāti Wairere.

This project has been a long time in the making, and was a “legacy” piece that our Establishment Board first discussed and budgeted for way back in 2019 using establishment grant funding.

We will share further detail regarding the design and meaning of the Pāwaha over the coming days (our students have already been learning about this).

Our thank-you to the many people that have helped with this special project:

  • James Webster – Artist and design
  • Matua Ted and Ihipera Heke Sweet – Ngāti Wairere design input
  • Hone Waudby - consultation and support
  • Greg Te Kanawa – Stainless Design
  • Tonkin + Taylor – Geotech and structural design work
  • Longveld – construction and installation
  • Wolfpack Construction – Excavation and foundation work
  • Our Establishment Board and current Board
