Star Biscuits for Matariki Celebration by Whaea Karen

Star Biscuits for Matariki

Room 1 - June 28, 2022

Room 1 had a lot of fun mixing, rolling, cutting, cooking and then decorating star biscuits for our school's Matariki celebration.

We put a lot of time and care into making them and we hope that whānau enjoyed them as well as all of the rest of the delicious kai.

We thought carefully about the colour scheme for our decorations on our biscuits as we wanted to include colours that represented the stars.

Blue - Waitī , Waitā, Waipuna-ā-rangi and Ururangi - we thought about colours relating to water and wind.

Green - Tupu-ā-rangi and Tupu-ā-nuku - we wanted to inspire people to think of nature, in particular, plants and forests.

Red - Pōhutukawa remembering those we love.

Yellow - Hiwa-i-te-rangi and Matariki wishing star and a connection to others.

We hope that if you did make it along to our kura’s Matariki celebration, you got to try some of our delicious star biscuits.

Wishing you Mānawatia a Matariki (Happy Māori New Year)
